Dr. Klassen, D.D.S Celebrates Military Anniv. at Stefano Dental

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Dr. Lata Stefano, DDS, Inc of Sandusky, Ohio celebrates Dr. Alexis Klassen on her 16 years with the U.S Navy. Dr. Klassen now serves as a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves. For more information, call 419.626.2205.

“I always knew I wanted to serve in the military,” said Dr. Alexis Klassen, associate dentist at Stefano Dental of Sandusky, Ohio. “It’s still so rewarding after all of these years,” said Dr. Klassen.

Dr. Klassen made the decision to serve in the military after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Through a Navy Scholarship program, she was able to accomplish becoming a dentist and a Naval Officer simultaneously.

Dr. Klassen has advanced through the military rank system during both her active military duty and reserve military career and currently serves as U.S. Navy Commander. She has been stationed with Marines, Seabees, and sailors in various states across the country as well as in Okinawa, Japan. Currently, in addition to doing dentistry in the Reserves, she serves as her unit’s Executive Officer, Command Fitness Leader, and Unit CIAC, which is a liaison for deployed service members.

This year, Dr. Klassen will be traveling to Oceanside, Calif. to work with the U.S. Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif. During the two weeks that she is there, she will be working as a dentist to complete all necessary care for the U.S. Marines prior to their upcoming deployment overseas. When she returns, she will be busy planning and executing a training evolution that will enable five military reserve units from Northern Ohio the opportunity to compete in a challenge course that incorporates military tactical skills with physical and mental team challenges.

Dr. Klassen received her doctorate of dental surgery from Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. Upon the completion of dental school, she spent subsequent years studying and gaining experience in the fields of general dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, and acute care during a credentialing tour with the United States Navy. She’s a native of Ann Arbor, Mich., and attended Bowling Green State University where she earned her undergraduate degree. She served in the United States Navy as a dental officer, where she has lived in Rhode Island, South Carolina, Mississippi, Illinois, and Okinawa, Japan. When she’s not serving the Navy Reserves Klassen enjoys time with her husband and two sons. They are frequent visitors to the local parks; enjoy bike rides, basketball games, bonfires and trips to their Michigan cabin. She is a member of the Naval Postgraduate Medical and Dental College and the United States Navy Reserve.
