Find the Cheapest Gas in Middleburg Heights and Berea as Prices Rise for Spring

Crude oil inventories are historically high, but the switch to more expensive summer blend is fueling the uptick.

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS-BEREA, OH - Gas prices have increased an average of 33 cents in the Cleveland-Loraine-Elyria metro area over the past month, according to a fuel gauge report compiled by AAA Ohio.

The average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $1.83 per gallon Monday, which is still almost 52 cents cheaper than it was a year ago. The prices in the Cleveland metro area are about 2 cents higher than the Ohio State average of $1.81 per gallon.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says the nation’s crude oil inventories are at historically high levels for this time of year. So, why are prices on the uptick?

It’s spring, and refineries have temporarily stopped production to switch to more expensive summer blends, which is touted as preventing the release of 28 tons of smog-causing compounds per day.
