Middleburg Heights Summer In The City Fest Coming June 22-24

Live music, a gigantic parade, festival rides and games, the Miss Middleburg Heights pageant, and more are coming back this year.

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH — The annual Summer in the City festival will return to Middleburg Heights on June 22-June 24. The celebration is expected to draw 25,000 or more people to the city for a weekend of live music, rides, and games. The festival's parade will now be held on a new night, Thursday.

The Thursday parade will be staged at 5:30 p.m. and will kick-off at 6:30 p.m. This year there will a 1,000-square-foot midway for the festival (featuring games, rides, etc.) and that will be setup along Smith Road, bisecting the Southland Shopping Center.

The Summer in the City Festival is the descendant of Middleburg Heights' old Home Days celebration. In 2007, the City Club of Middleburg Heights met with Mayor Gary Starr to discuss a new vision for the city's annual summer celebration.

The Club wanted to expand what Home Days was, add more rides, add more games, give more people a reason to visit the party. The Home Days celebration had traditionally drawn about 1,000 people to the city, according to the Summer in the City Festival website. The new festival should be bigger, the Club thought.

In 2008, Summer in the City launched and brought about 20,000 people to Middleburg Heights. By 2016, about 26,000 people were attending the event. To commemorate the continued growth of the Festival, the organizers say the 2017 parade will be the largest in Middleburg Heights' history.
