Southwest General Hospital Selected for Olmsted EMS Medical Control

The township's EMS teams will get training and education from Southwest staff.

BEREA, OH - The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel for Olmsted Township have selected Southwest General Hospital as the provider for medical control. That means education and training for the township's EMS teams will be handled both at Southwest and in the field using Southwest experts.

“Southwest General and Olmsted Township have a long history of collaborating to promote the health and wellness of community residents. We look forward to continuing this relationship by providing support and education for members of the Olmsted Township Fire Department,” said William Young, Jr., president and chief executive officer, Southwest General, in a press release. “By working together, we can meet the community’s needs for high-quality emergency medical care and provide a seamless experience for patients from community to hospital.”

The agreement says that Olmsted EMS will meet once a month with the Southwest Area Fire and Emergency Services (SAFES) committee and Southwest General representatives. The meeting will see the group discuss the direction of the township's EMS operations and how Olmsted Township's residents are cared for.

The hospital will also coordinate monthly meetings that covers all fire departments that come to the hospital for medical control, including the newly added Olmsted Township Fire Department EMS. During those meetings, the EMS teams and Southwest experts evaluate patient care, protocols, new equipment and procedures, and up-to-date patient care.

According to Pat Kelly, Fire Chief of the Olmsted Township Fire Department, “We are fortunate to have the backing of a hospital, such as Southwest General, which maintains strong relationships with area Fire Departments and is proactive in providing education and training for our firefighter/paramedics.”
