Kick-off Dinner Gala
The cornerstone promises to be the Hunger Awareness Month Kick-off Gala dinner Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. in the Community Campus at Goodwill at 408 9th St. SW, Canton.

The event features keynote speaker Corey Minor Smith; an overview of the continuing battle against hunger, and recognition of Hunger Patrons of 2012. The public is invited – RSVP to 330-455-6667 or emailinfo@starkhunger.org. No ticket required.
Leading up to the gala, October highlights include:
Nine-ball Pool Tourne
The second event in our Tournament of Champions, a nine-ball pool tourne unfolds Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Fox and Hound, 4834 Everhard Rd., Canton. The second event in the triple-crown of hunger relief provides two-shooter teams a chance to win the purse split 50-50 with the Stark County Hunger Task Force.
Tailgate Against Hunger
Tailgate Against Hunger at the Malone / Ashland football game Saturday evening. Make a cash or non-perishable food donation and get in the gates for half price to cheer on the Pioneers. Additional donations and food collections throughout the community will be conducted leading up to the big game by the Belden Village Kiwanis Club and SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) from Malone University.
Big Band Sweetest Day Dance
The Church of the Lakes Dance Band plans to fill the air Saturday with big-band and Latin tunes at a Sweetest Day dance benefiting the Stark County Hunger Task Force. The event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Church of the Lakes, 5944 Fulton Dr. NW, Canton. For information, call 330-499-6626.

Various food and fund drives at numerous schools, businesses and community organizations.
Massages benefit the hungry
Crossroads Chiropractic and Wellness in Crossroads Square at 11201 State Route 800, Magnolia, will donate the proceeds from all 30-minute massages by Theresa Gillian, LMT, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Massages are $30, and donations of non-perishable food items will also be collected.
Fill-a-Semi Drive through Nov. 10
Many of the county’s United Church of Christ congregations are banding together to fill a semi trailer with non-perishable food. The Fill-a-Semi Drive began at the fall festival at the Trinity United Church of Christ at 8101 Manchester Rd., Canal Fulton. Plans call for the trailer to be in various locations throughout the county with the drive ending Nov. 10.
Mercy Gift Shop discount
The Mercy Medical Center Gift Shop will offer a 25 percent discount off of any one item for customers donating non-perishable food items through October and November.
Poker highlights final Tournament of Champions event
A Texas Hold’em tournament Nov. 17 beginning at noon at Rafters Bar and Grille, 1211 39th St. NE, completes the triple-crown of hunger relief. Entry fee is $20 a person with a 50/50 split of the purse between the winner and SCHTF. Free appetizers and food and drink specials will be available.
Wonderful Week of Giving
Give blood to feed the hungry -- the Aultman Blood Center will make us the beneficiary of the Wonderful Week of Giving, Nov.18 through Nov. 24 with a donation for every blood donor throughout the week. Blood drive locations to be announced.
Spirit of Giving Day
The 13th annual Spirit of Giving Day will be held Nov. 30 at Downtown Ford and Lincoln, 1423 W Tuscarawas St. -- a fun drive-through donation opportunity.

Founded in 1981, Stark County Hunger Task Force at 408 9th St. SW, Suite 1637, leads the battle against hunger in Stark County. SCHTF feeds some 25,000 individuals and families every month through more than two-and-a-half dozen food pantries, “Backpacks for Kids” programs, an emergency pantry and mobile pantry services.
