Banfield Charitable Trust Awards Grant to Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties

Banfield Charitable Trust Grants $1,080 to Meals on Wheels 

MASSILLON, OH – Local nonprofit organizations Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties will be able to properly store over 24,000 pounds of pet food donated by Royal Canin, thanks to a $1,080 grant from Banfield Charitable Trust.  The grant will pay for the storage shed housing the food, which is donated to homebound clients for their pets. 

The “Wheels for Wags Program” was started in 2007 with the goal of keeping clients together and happy with their pets by providing companion animals with healthy and nutritious food.  The program is administered by caring volunteers who note the needs of the clients and their pets and coordinate the delivery of over 3,000 pounds of pet food each month. Nearly 20% of Meals on Wheels clients benefit from the program.

“Studies prove time and time again that pets can impact a person’s cholesterol and blood pressure levels, along with making people feel loved, safe, and secure,” said Dawn Moeglin, Community Relations/Grant Administrator for Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties.  “Banfield Charitable Trust understand how important that relationship is between a shut-in and their pet and wants to be certain that they can stay together for as long as possible.  This program wouldn’t exist without their generosity.”
