
The Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps is throwing a birthday celebration and inviting all of Northeast Ohio to join in the festivities. Beginning on Thursday, June 14, 2012 the corps will hold three successive days of fun, food and fanfare!
The 40th Anniversary weekend kicks off with a special concert at Gervasi Vineyard in Canton on Thursday, June 14th at 6:30 pm. Performing at Gervasi Vineyard is a tip of the hat to the corps’ legacy, as the Swaldo Family, longtime supporters of the Bluecoats organization, owns and operates the Vineyard. This special performance is free to the public.
The Bluecoats’ 40th Anniversary Celebration & Family Day event will be held at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field in Akron on Friday, June 15th at 7:30pm and features a celebration of the organization’s history with video, guest speakers from the corps’ past and a few surprises for everyone in attendance. The event culminates in the debut of the 2012 Bluecoats’ competitive show, titled UnMasqued. A reception with snacks, silent auction, cash bar, and a live band will follow the presentation. The festivities continue on Saturday morning, June 16th at the Champion Event Center in North Canton, the home of the Bluecoats Organization. From 9am – 12pm, the Bluecoats and the North Canton Knights of Columbus will host a community pancake breakfast. Sausage and all-you-can eat pancakes will be served for $5 per person, and memorabilia from 40 years of Bluecoats history will be on display. The Champion Event Center is located at 340 Mississippi St. SE in North Canton and tickets can be purchased at the door.
The weekend culminates on Saturday evening, June 16th as the celebration returns to InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field in Akron for Innovations in Brass Presents the 2012 DCI Tour Premier Live Event at 7:30pm. This Drum & Bugle Corps competition is Drum Corps International’s first event of the 2012 season, and features six of the world’s best Drum & Bugle Corps including the Bluecoats; the reigning World Champion Cadets from Allentown, PA; the 7-time World Champion Cavaliers from Rosemont, IL; the 2-time World Champion Phantom Regiment from Rockford, IL; Carolina Crown from Ft. Mill, SC; and the Blue Stars from La Crosse, WI. Enjoy soaring brass sounds, thundering percussion, amazing precision, and brilliant color as these six corps amaze you with their performances. Tickets start at $15, and can be purchased online at www.dci.org/tickets, or at the stadium box office on Exchange St. starting at 3:00pm on the day of the event. Ticket prices increase by $4 on show day, so be sure to get yours early!
