Canton Maid Brigade Participates in “Read across America” Annual Book Drive for the 3rd Year

During the entire month of March, Maid Brigade will collect new and gently used children’s books to benefit the National Education Association’s Read Across America campaign. Locally the books collected will be donated to the Akron Children’s Hospital and Hands of Hope.

“This is our third year participating in the book drive and we are taking a new approach to the campaign locally,” said Margie Toombs, co-owner of the Northeast Ohio Maid Brigade. “The Canton Charge basketball team has graciously agreed to help in the collection of books by featuring our Book Donation table at two of the home games in March.”

Maid Brigade of Northeast Ohio will be in person at the Canton Civic Center during the Canton Charge game on March 2 and during the Fan Appreciation game on March 31st. Additionally, several other local businesses have offered to be book donation drops during the month of March including SarahCare located at 6199 Frank Ave, NW. North Canton and Miller Rental at 4705 Tuscarawas St W. Canton.

“Customers of Maid Brigade can leave their donations in their home for pick up during their March cleaning visit,” said Toombs. “Additionally, local Canton residents can stop by our office located at 1506 Whipple Ave NW, Canton during normal working hours to make a book donation.”

As a national franchisor, Maid Brigade stands for more than just a place of business, but rather a member of the local community. As such, this national book drive effort is an opportunity for each Maid Brigade franchise location to connect with customers and community members and provide books to help bring a love of reading to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity.

According to the National Education Association (NEA), children who read at home have a higher success rate in school and develop stronger reading skills. This fact prompted the NEA to launch its Read Across America program in 1998. Each year millions of children and adults participate and benefit from this annual event.

For more information about how you can participate in this year’s Read Across America event, visit www.maidbrigade.com/book-drive  or call 330-453-6000 to schedule a pick up.  Those who are already customers of Maid Brigade of Northeast Ohio can leave their donation in their home for pick up during their normally scheduled cleaning between now and March 31, 2013.
