Holiday Giving at the North Canton Public Library

The North Canton Public Library will actively collect donations for “A Community Christmas” and the “Holiday Paws Pantry” beginning Monday, November 19, 2012.

Each year the library looks forward to supporting community giving programs for the holidays. Traditionally, the library supports several programs organized by “A Community Christmas,” and in 2011, a collection bin for the inaugural year of the “Holiday Paws Pantry” program was hosted as well.

For the 2012 holiday season, the North Canton Public Library will host the following:

• A “Giving Tree” in which names of local nursing home residents, children, and adults are placed on a gift card, along with the age and special need, if any. The tags hang on the tree and library patrons can select a card, purchase a gift and return it wrapped with the tag attached. The gifts are then delivered to the recipients in the various nursing homes, schools and agencies.

• A “Mitten Tree” where items such as mittens, gloves, hats, undergarments, and socks for children from infancy to high school age serve as decorations until they are removed and given to “A Community Christmas” for distribution to those with a need.

• A “Coats for Christmas” collection box where new and gently used coats can be donated. “A Community Christmas” will distribute the coats to Goodwill, Calvary Mission, Refuge of Hope, Wesley United Methodist Church in Massillon, Avondale Kindergarten, Domestic Violence Project, and others in need.

• A “Holiday Paws Pantry” collection bin where unopened pet food, pet treats and pet toys will be collected. In 2011, the program, sponsored by The Ad Lab and the North Canton Chamber of Commerce, collected 4900 pounds of pet food, as well as miscellaneous pet supplies and kitty litter. The food and other items were distributed to 132 area families.

Each of the “A Community Christmas” projects will kick-off at the library Monday, November 19, 2012 and continue through December 9, 2012. The “Paws Pantry” will continue through December 16, 2012.
