Hoover High School Visual Artists Recognized at 2013 National Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards

The National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards recently announced its 2013 recipients for the North East Central Region.

Hoover High School artists for the 15th straight year were recognized with high honors. Their works, selected from nearly 4,000 submissions, will be on display at the Kent State Stark Campus Fine Arts and Student Center Building from Jan. 22 through Jan. 30.

All of the students from the Media, Wayne, Stark, Portage and Summit Counties who received the designation of “silver key” and “gold key” will be recognized at a ceremony on Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. at Kent Stark’s Professional Development Center.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have an impressive history dating back to 1923. Past winners including well-known names in the arts, such as Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford and Joyce Carol Oates.

These awards are an opportunity for students to be recognized in one of 28 categories. Each year, teens in grades 7 through 12 can apply for the opportunity for a number of scholarships, and to have their works exhibited or published.
