Kent Stark Recognizes WORLD AIDS DAY with Activities and Events, Including Free HIV Testing

To recognize World AIDS Day, which is December 1, 2012, Kent State University at Stark will host numerous informative events and lectures to increase the awareness and understanding of HIV and AIDS. World AIDS Day has become one of the most recognized international health days and a key opportunity to raise awareness, commemorate those who have passed on, and celebrate victories, such as increased access to treatment and prevention services. At Kent State Stark, events include a presentation on HIV care by infectious disease specialist Dr. Donald Dumford, as well as free, private HIV testing and a fundraising party. All on-campus activities will take place at Kent State Stark, located at 6000 Frank Avenue in Jackson Township.

The free HIV testing is open to students, faculty, staff and community members. To ensure privacy, study rooms on the Library’s second floor will be temporarily remodeled to give each person requesting a test an individual room. The test results will be given within 20 minutes and a qualified counselor will be available to discuss the results.
