Halloween’s history but Zombie ArtVasion is very much alive on November 2, as First Friday scares up some fun in the Canton Arts District.
Face the evening by stopping at The Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography, where make-up artist Darryl Parsons will turn you from cute to creepy, before and after his full special effects demo at 7 p.m. Then let, God of Carnage, a play performed by Seat of The Pants Productions, may you squirm at Players Guild Theatre. Or, cozy up with your favorite boy or ghoul at the Canton Palace’s free flick, The Nightmare before Christmas. Nearby, the LifeShare blood bank will be open for business (deposits only!) while the living dead from the Ananda Center roam the streets to prey and play.
Shudder with glee at the jewelry exhibit of Teri Barnes at Lynda Tuttle’s Art Center, tap your toes to the folksy feats of Yankee Bravo, and ponder the perplexity of MECHANIC/ORGANIC, the haunting new show at Translations, featuring the work of Danny Saathoff and Annette Yoho Feltes. Cross the street to 2nd April Galerie & Studios and introduce yourself to the 20 resident artists and say “hey” to Major Lee and Brian Henke, who will be playing on site. Venture up to the Dreg Spot to celebrate the shop’s 5th Anniversary and be sure to visit Creative Ohio Gallery in their new digs on 4th Street, a block away from Journey Studios and Canton Glassworks.
