Polish Holiday Celebration at the North Canton Public Library

The North Canton Public Library invites middle school students to the library Monday, *Nov. 26, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. for a Polish Holiday Celebration exploring the traditional Polish St. Andrew Celebration.

The one hour program, led by Adult and Teen Services Librarian Edyta Metz, a native of Poland, will feature holiday activities including games and a look into the future -- using candle wax, of course! Additionally, the popular Polish treat, punchki, will be served. Punchki, similar to a doughnut, is a traditional round Polish pastry that is filled with fruit.

The event, which has been celebrated in Poland since the turn of the 16th century, traditionally centered around predicting the future. One way this was done involved pouring melted wax into a bowl of cold water and exploring the shadows created by the wax. Metz will lightheartedly guide event attendees in this tradition.
