COLUMBUSβ State Senator Scott Oelslager (RβNorth Canton) was named βLegislator of the Yearβ by the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association in a ceremony yesterday evening.Β
βOur parks and recreation facilities promote an incredible standard of community involvement,β said Oelslager. βBy providing our children and families with these places and opportunities, we foster healthier individuals and stronger communities.β

Ohio Parks and Recreation Association President Woody Woodward thanked Oelslager for being a long-time supporter of parks and recreation issues, also noting that the Senator has been a strong advocate in the legislature for Clean Ohio funding.Β
In 2000, Senator Oelslager was one of the primary architects of the Clean Ohio program and has continued to work closely with the Stark County Park District, as well as the statewide association, to ensure sufficient funding.

Also awarded during the ceremony were two student scholarships as well as awards for Youth Sports Coach of the Year and Outstanding Citizen, among others.Β
