Stark State College Students Earn More Than $200,000 in Choose Ohio First Scholarships

In the first round of scholarship funding for health sciences students, 136 Stark State students received $204,000 in Choose Ohio First Program of Innovation dollars.

Students in eight health sciences programs earned $1,500 each for the current school year.

β€œThese awards have changed students’ lives by allowing many of them to finish their programs without an additional financial burden,” said Donna Alexander, interim dean of health sciences.
The Choose Ohio First scholarship program is part of the state’s strategic effort to significantly strengthen Ohio’s competitiveness within STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, math) and STEM education.
Choose Ohio First provides scholarships to students in innovative academic programs developed by Ohio’s colleges and universities and their business partners to recruit and retain more students in STEM fields, funding higher education and business collaborations that will have the most impact on Ohio’s position in world markets such as aerospace, medicine, computer technology and alternative energy.
