North Canton Heritage Society Annual Meeting

Β Β

It’s the 95th anniversary of the town of North
Canton in 2013.Β  The town, founded as New
Berlin in 1831, has now existed more years with its second name than its first.

Β Β  As you may know, the town’s name was changed from New Berlin in 1918, due to the anti-German sentiment after the U. S. entered World War I in April 1917.

Β Β  How this all came about will be the subject of the speaker at our Annual Meeting on Tuesday, March 19 at 7 p.m.Β  Dr. Christopher Post, Assistant Professor of Geography at Kent State University Stark Campus, will
talk about how the name change came about, the subject of his recent journal article.Β  Much of the research for the
paper was done here at the Heritage Society.

Β Β  Attendees will also learn about the Society’s accomplishments this year and elect new board members. Β Refreshments will be served after the meeting.
