FOOD FOR FINES – A Win-Win for the North Canton Community

From June 1 - June 29, the North Canton Public Library will accept food donations in lieu of library fine payments. The fine for one overdue item will be waived for each item donated, with a maximum of $25 in total credit possible for each account. Any fines that are in the official collections process cannot be waived. The library’s primary partner in this initiative is the Zion Lutheran Church Food Pantry, which is known as the North Canton satellite location of the Stark County Hunger Task Force. Zion will distribute the collected food to families in need through their existing program. Acceptable donations include non-expired canned goods or boxed food items, as well as unopened paper products and toiletries. We are excited to bring this program back again this year, because it was so successful in 2012. As the library prepares for the launch of its popular summer reading programs, it is important to us that fines not prevent patrons, especially young children and teens, from participating. Patrons who do not have existing fines, but wish to donate food items, are certainly encouraged to do so.
