Kmart Employee Attacked in Parking Lot With Box Cutter
North Canton Police on the lookout for suspect in Saturday evening assault and robbery attempt.
A Kmart employee was attacked with a box cutter during a robbery attempt early Saturday evening in the North Main Street store’s parking lot, according to North Canton Police.
Police were called at 6:43 p.m. after an employee was assaulted while he was outside collecting shopping carts, Sgt. Ronald Mizner Jr. stated in press release.
“The suspect demanded money and was armed with a box cutter. While the victim was attempting to get his wallet, the suspect began slashing at the victim,” Mizner said.

The victim had minor cuts on his arms and chest. A North Canton EMS squad responded and the victim was treated and released.
Mizner said officers searched for the suspect but did not find him. Summit County Sheriff’s Deputy Darrell Seevers and his K-9, Charlie, tracked the suspect to the rear of businesses in the 1600 block of North Main (Kmart is at 1447 N. Main), where the trail hit a dead end.

Police are on the lookout for the suspect, reportedly a dark-skinned black male in his late 20s to early 30s with short hair, about 5’11” and of average build. The man was wearing blue jeans, black boots and a black jacket of a fleece type of material.

Charges for the crime include attempted aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and felonious assault, a second-degree felony.
