Meals on Wheels receives local and national grants

Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties (MOW) is honored to announce it is receiving a combined total of $14,888 in grant funding.

MASSILLON, OH – June 19, 2017 – Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties (MOW) is honored to announce it is receiving a combined total of $14,888 in grant funding from the Aultman Foundation, Health Foundation of Greater Massillon, the Massillon Community Charitable Fund, and Meals on Wheels America.

$3,000 from the Aultman Foundation will be used to purchase manual lid crimpers, or “slammers,” for its satellite sites. This equipment allows MOW staff to quickly and safely package hot meals.

$5,388 from the Health Foundation of Greater Massillon will be used to purchase new shelving units for its main commissary. The shelves will increase MOW’s ability to purchase healthy food in bulk by providing safe and sturdy storage space.

“It is very rewarding to know so many foundations believe in our mission and recognize the need to support Meals on Wheels,” said Ted Watko, CEO of Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties. “All of the funding we are receiving through these three grants will help further improve our operations, and, as a result, create an even better service for our clients.”

MOW serves 1,400 meals per day to nutritionally at-risk individuals throughout Stark and Wayne Counties – regardless of their age or income. To do this, the agency depends on passionate staff, dedicated volunteers, and a very generous community. As the demand for MOW’s services continues to increase, so does the agency’s need for supporters. For more information on how you can support Meals on Wheels, please visit www.mow-starkwayne.org.
