North Canton Lions Give $3,909 Gift to School District
Donation being used to purchase new technology for use at Hoover High School.

The North Canton Lions Club is making a difference at Hoover High School through its donation of $3,909 for the purchase of two Smart Board interactive whiteboards, Bluetooth connections and a data projector.
Joan Ferris, club president, and Dave Greek, treasurer, presented the $3,909 check to Superintendent Michael Hartenstein during Wednesdayβs North Canton City Schools Board of Education meeting.
Ferris said the donation fits perfectly with the clubβs mission.

βThe North Canton Lions club is part of Lions International, which is the worldβs largest service organization. We believe in making a difference in our community and the world,β she said. βSome of the ways that this is accomplished is through helping those in financial need for eye examinations and glasses.β
In 2012, alone, the North Canton Lions:

- Provided glasses for two candidates.
- Adopted two families for Christmas.
- Helped with tutoring at Greentown Intermediate School.
- Pledged money to the Orchard Hill Intermediate School PTA's fall fundraiser.
- Served as bell ringers for The Salvation Army.
- Collected used glasses for donation to missions in Central America.
Ferris said the club also participates in North Canton's Main Street Festival and the community Fall Festival, plans the Memorial Day Parade and conducts fundraisers, including two annual craft shows and selling roses.
βThe profits from these events help to fund our activities. The money that remains each year has been placed in a special project fund. After many years of saving, we have this money to present to the North Canton Schools ... It is our hope that this equipment will be used to enhance learning in the classrooms,β Ferris explained.
