Scrapbooking Workshop

Canton – As part of the programming surrounding its hosting of the Smithsonian
Institution’s Museum on Main Street exhibit “Journey Stories,” the North Canton
Heritage Society will present a scrapbooking workshop on Wednesday, September
25 from 7 until 9 p.m. at its Ream Ave. NW museum.

            “Journey Stories” takes the visitor
on a trip to explore the truly American phenomenon of immigration – how we all
got here – from the Mayflower to the jet airplane.  This exhibit shows the story of the different
ways we arrived here to how we’ve moved about the country.

            The stories contained in the exhibit
impel us to think about our own family’s history and how to document it.  This scrapbooking workshop, conducted by
Gloria Ecenbarger of North Canton, will allow the participant to create a
personal scrapbook page of their own family’s journey.  These pages, showing the differing ways we
all arrived in America, will then be on display for the duration of the
“Journey Stories” exhibit, until October 31, then returned to their owners.  Ms. Ecenbarger will also detail methods on how
to get started making family scrapbooks.

            Cost for the workshop is a $10 fee
for materials.  Participants should bring
three or four images (scans or good photocopies, not originals) of their
ancestors that tell their journey story, as well as names and dates.

            Reservations are necessary as space
is limited.  A visit to the “Journey

            The “Journey Stories” exhibit will
be on display from September 23 to October 31. 
Hours are 9 a.m. to noon weekdays and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays.  Admission to the exhibit is free.  The North Canton Heritage Society is at 185
Ream Ave., NW, North Canton, across from the rear of the North Canton Public
Library.
