UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorm Could Spawn Tornado in Stark County

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The severe showers and thunderstorms will likelyΒ become more scattered in North Canton by 8 p.m., according to weather.com.Β Β 

The storm has the potential to produce a tornado; however the National Weather Service has indicated that only may happen in EastΒ Sparta, Hartville, Louisville, Waynesburg, Alliance,Β East Canton and Limaville.Β 

In the event of a tornado, weather officials ask for residents to seek shelter in a basement, the lowest floor of a building in an interior hallway or closet.Β

The tornado warning is set to expire at 5:30 p.m.

Also, North Canton motorists are advised to avoid Sheraton Drive NW due to high water, according to North Canton police dispatch. All other roads are should be passable at this time.Β

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of Ohio, including Stark County,Β as a line of storms with high winds and hail moves east.

The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Thunderstorms are expected to continue today and this evening as the storms bring a cold front in. There is a slight chance of "severe damaging wind and hail."

As much as 1 to 2 inches of rain could fall, forecasters said.
