Take a Look Inside the Historic Canterbury Spa Building
The new spa, at the corner of Orion Street and Burkey Road and operated by Laura Lewis, opens Monday but is in a building filled with history
Canterbury Spa Owner Laura Lewis hasn't officially opened her doors for business yet, but she's had plenty of people through the doors.
Passersby are curious about the building that sits at Orion Street and Burkey Road, which Lewis said was built in 1890.
During a recent yard sale, a few asked to see the inside of the building and someone even told her she was married in the building.

If you ask Lewis, the ambiguity and curiosity around the building is pretty cool.
"I would drive by and say 'Oh my gosh, what is that place?' Everybody drives by and says 'What is that place? It looks like a country church, but that's a weird place for a country church.'"

Lewis, a mother of three who previously worked in Canton, said she grew up in Missouri and this building reminded her of home. It originally was a wedding chapel.
She had her eye on it since about two years ago, and when the opportunity came for her to take it, she did. She works in the building with Matt Stroia of Stroia Financial, which is located in the loft.
Lewis also is ordained, so she can marry people inside the building, too.
Canterbury Spa, 3511 Orion Street NW, had an open house Wednesday and will have another from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.
