Travis Chambers Wins Second Place at the All-American Soap Box Derby Race

We have a local star in North Canton. Travis Chambers is back in the news again

Remember ? Our past who found his passion in Soap Box Derby racing?

Well, we thought you would like to know how he did at the All-American Soap Box Derby race that he competed in last Saturday: He took second place in the world in his Rally Stock Division.

There were about 450 racers from around the world in six different divisions: Local and Rally Stock, Super Stock, Masters and then the Ultimate Speed Divison, said Sara Chambers, Travis' mom.

Not only did Travis take second place in the world for his division, but he won a $1,000 college scholarship.

"Corbin Bernsen took a picture with him then must have tweeted it as he was saying 'Travis is my movie-kid who started racing after being an extra and just placed second in the world,'" Sara said. (Travis was in the movie 25 Hill).

This race had extra meaning for Travis because his 7-year-old brother was in the hospital while he was racing.

"I was happy that I got second place, but sad because I was trying to win for my brother who was in the hospital," Travis said.

But, Sara has a different perspective.

"Right before Travis raced his last heat, I got news from the hospital that Justin was going to be discharged," she said. "So, in my opinion we did win it all. We could not be happier and felt very blessed."
