Police: Two Drivers Charged After Fleeing Separate Accident Scenes

North Canton police worked quickly to locate, arrest and charge two men who allegedly caused car accidents that injured passengers.

North Canton police made two arrests in two separate hit-skip crashes over the weekend, both of which resulted in injuries.

The first accident occurred 6:30 p.m. Friday after one car struck another at East Maple Street and Marquardt Avenue, according to a North Canton police press release.

James D. Houston, 50, of Barberton, who allegedly caused the crash, fled on foot.

He was arrested a day later by North Canton police and charged with assured clear distance, driving under suspension and leaving the scene of a crash.

Then, on Saturday at 9:10 p.m., another car accident occurred in the 100 block of North Main Street.

Once again, the driver who allegedly caused the crash, Tony W. Hill, 47, of North Canton, fled from the scene.

Police quickly caught up with Hill, impounded his car and charged him with assured clear distance, operating vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, leaving the scene of a crash and resisting arrest.

He was booked into Stark County Jail.
