Why Do Cars Keep Crashing Into North Canton Structures?

There's some dangerous habits drivers can avoid to help ensure safe travel.

North Canton has seen three relatively major crashes in the last five weeks, so Patch asked local police and fire officials to offerΒ input that could help prevent a driver from smashing into a grocery store, church, residence and/or person.Β

Even though its legal, North Canton Police Lt. Stanley Strausser asks that motorists talk on cell phones only when absolutely necessary, and said they should never send or receive text messages since its now illegal for drivers to do so in Ohio.Β

Strausser also said its wise to avoid applying makeup, eating food or allowing other distractions to impede one's driving ability.

Pedestrians need to be just as careful, given the fact that cars sped over sidewalks in each of the three crashes, said North Canton Fire Chief John Bacon.Β

"Accidents can happen anywhere, anytime," he said. "Luckily, when cars hit these structures the last few weeks, no one on the other side of the wall was injured. No matter where you are, you always have to be cognizant of your surroundings."
