100 Years in 100 Days: Actress Dorothy Hart

Shaker Heights Patch is celebrating the 100 years of Shaker Heights history by creating an online scrapbook. Each day for 100 days, we'll feature a photograph that helps tell the story of Shaker Heights.

Today's photo features Dorothy Hart, who was a movie actress in the 1940s and 1950s. She caught Hollywood's eye in 1944, when she won Columbia Picture's "National Cinderella Girl" modeling contest.

She made her first film, Gunfighters with Randolph Scott, in 1947. But her career sputtered when she was cast in a string of B movies. She left Hollywood in the 1950s, and moved to New York. She got roles in television series and was a regular on game shows such as "I've Got A Secret."

Hart retired from acting in 1966 and moved to North Carolina, where she died in 2004.
