Avoid Lower Lake In Shaker Heights For 10 Days

Crews are removing weakened trees and dangling limbs to make the park safer for visitors.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Shaker Heights residents are being asked to avoid Lower Lake for at least the next 10 days. Crews are removing storm damaged trees from the area, the city said in an email.

Residents are being asked to avoid the area for safety reasons. "Weakened trees and hanging limbs around the entire lake are a safety hazard. Shaker Heights Forestry Crews will be working with large machinery to remove damaged trees and large limbs, some of which are hanging in trees," the city said.

Officials asked residents to stay out of the park and away from the crews over the next 10 days. The city said it would send out a notification when work in the park is complete.

Lower Lake is specifically being worked on along South Park Boulevard, between Coventry Road and Larchmere Boulevard. Crews began work in the area on Thursday.

The trees and forest were damaged during Friday's thunderstorm and microburst, which brought 100 mph winds sweeping through the area. One of Northeast Ohio's oldest White Oak trees was felled during the storm.
