A Note on your business & politics

            If you’re in business, you’re in politics. The question is what are you going to do about it? The political climate matters because whatever the outcome of any election, it can affect your business. I’m always puzzled as to why small business owners do not actively participate in local politics. I rarely see local business owners at local city council meetings or school board meetings yet I hear their opinions all the time. Complaints and compliments don’t matter if you only talk amongst yourselves.

Be involved! No matter which party is in control. Know your local politicians, have your say. This is not an encouragement to vent and rave. Professional courtesy is always in order. You won’t always agree with anybody, most people don’t ALWAYS agree even with their spouses. Yet, the decisions of your local body of government will affect your bottom line. If the schools are not performing at peak, less houses will sell. This means, less new residents. This means less foot traffic to your business, which means less profit. If the city is not running well, same result. A smart business owner will know just as much about the community he or she works in as the community they live in.
