More Report Card Data Released - Shaker Data

A second installment of district and school results on Ohio’s 2011-2012 state tests and several related performance measures were released yesterday by the Ohio Department of Education.  Schools and districts have had access to student achievement data on standardized assessments throughout the summer.

Last month, the State Board of Education voted to release many of the preliminary data elements for the 2011-2012 Local Report Cards in spreadsheet format.

Data elements released in September included:
·       Value-Added results, which show whether students meet the expected one year of growth for students in Grades 3-8 in reading and math.
·       Adequate Yearly Progress, which is a federally required component that measures achievement of each student subgroup, including racial and ethnic components.
·       Graduation rates for districts and high schools. The rate is calculated using a method required by federal law.

Data elements released yesterday included:
·       Attendance data reported by districts.
·       State Indicators met.  State Indicators include proficiency on standardized assessments, attendance rate and graduation rate.
·       Performance Index, which is a weighted average that includes all tested subjects and grades.
·       Report Card Ratings determined by a formula which includes indicators met, performance index and Adequate Yearly Progress.

Additional report card data for districts and schools will be released at a later date, pending the progress of an investigation by State Auditor David Yost into irregularities in the reporting of student attendance and the exclusion from report cards by local districts of some students in order to improve ratings.  The information released remains subject to revision.
