Church Broken Into, Damaged In Shaker Heights

Police said someone broke into the First Unitarian Church last week.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Someone broke into the First Unitarian Church and damaged the building, police said. The destruction was discovered at about 9 a.m. on July 10 when a church employee called police. The church was locked overnight. Police are still investigating the incident.

There have also been a rash of bicycle thefts from throughout the city over the past week. Several residents and visitors have had their bikes stolen from different areas of town.

On Wednesday, July 11, for instance, a resident parked their bike in the 3000 block of Gridley Road. The bicycle was locked, but someone still managed to steal the bicycle. Then two bikes were stolen from outside the Shaker Heights Public Library on Thursday, one locked and other unlocked.

Robbery, July 11 — An unidentified man assaulted a resident on Van Aken Boulevard, using a gun, and stole the man's money.

Theft, July 11 — An electronic device was taken out of a Clevelander's unlocked car while it was parked at the Shaker Heights Public Library.

Theft, July 11 — A customer as Subway stole food from the restaurant.
