Civic Honor Given To Shaker Heights Resident

The highest civic honor of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland will be awarded to Richard W. Pogue.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Shaker Heights' Richard W. Pogue will receive the Jewish Federation of Cleveland's highest civic honor for outstanding contributions to the community — the Charles Eisenman Award.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by the Jewish community,” Pogue said. “The continuity that the Jewish community and its leaders have is a great model for the rest of us. It makes me very proud and pleased that I've had the opportunity to meet and work with them over the years.”

Pogue has been a prominent figure in the Cleveland community since the 1960s, when he helped create the Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association. Through that organization, Pogue advanced health care, social services, education reform, economic development, and the arts in the inner city.

Throughout his life and career, Pogue has been involved in more than 50 nonprofits including the Cleveland Foundation, University Hospitals Health System, City Club of Cleveland, Case Western Reserve University, and American Red Cross. Additionally, Pogue has spearheaded multi-million dollar fundraising campaigns at the United Way of Greater Cleveland, Cleveland Institute of Music, and Gordon Square Arts District.

During his day job, Pogue worked at Jones Day, spurring the firm's growth from 335 to 1,225 lawyers. He continues to be active as an adviser on client development, special projects, and civic engagement at Jones Day.

Pogue served in the U.S. Army, is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Michigan Law School.

Pogue will receive his award during the Federation's 115th Annual Meeting on April 8 at 7 p.m.. The event is free and open to the public. The meeting will be held at Gross Schechter Day School, 27601 Fairmount Boulevard, Pepper Pike.
