Community Helps Catch Accused Burglar In Shaker Heights

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — After asking for help from the community, and receiving an outpouring of tips, Shaker Heights Police arrested a man accused of involvement in a Monday burglary. A second suspect is still at-large, police said.

"We would like to express our sincere thanks for the many tips we have received regarding these crimes. We continue to aggressively investigate this incident in an effort to locate the other suspect involved," the department said in a statement.

Carl Edwin Deditch, 36, of Cleveland, was taken into custody after police released video footage from a burglary on Wednesday. By 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, Deditch was arrested by police.

Police indicated that Deditch and another man were possibly involved in multiple crimes that happened recently in Shaker Heights. According to police records, packages were stolen from three residents in the 16000 block of Van Aken Boulevard. That same day, and on the same block, someone broke into a multi-unit residence, damaging a door at the home.
