Do YOU Have Your Library Card?

September Is National Library Card Sign-Up Month and Shaker Library Has a Card for YOU.

For the second consecutive year, Shaker Library has joined with eight other library systems in Cuyahoga County to help ensure every child under 18 years old in the county owns a library card. The initiative, A Card for Every Kid Library Challenge, takes place during Library Card Sign-up Month (September 1 – 30, 2017). A Card for Every Kid Library Challenge is a cooperative effort to raise awareness of the importance of having a library and to better understand the factors that keep some children and teens from owning a library card.

During this September campaign, children under 18 years old who already have library cards, but owe fines on them will also be invited to take advantage of one-time fine forgiveness anytime during National Library Card Sign-up Month.

According to Shaker Library Director Amy Switzer, “We want every child to have access to the Library so they can continue to grow and thrive. We also invite parents to take a brief survey so we can have a better understanding of parental attitudes toward library card ownership for their children.”
