Dog Found Wandering In Shaker Heights After July 4th

More pets runaway on July 4th than any other day of the year. One missing dog was found in Shaker Town Center.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH β€” The crackling boom of fireworks causes more dogs to runaway on Independence Day than on any other day of the year. One pup was found running around Shaker Town Center on July 5, Shaker Heights Police say.

The July 4th holiday has long caused all breeds of dogs to become panicky and flee their residences or owners. This has led to inundated animal shelters and pets strolling across towns without humans in tow. (To stay up to date on these stories, subscribe to the Patch Shaker Heights newsletter. In the future, pet owners should keep their dogs inside during the holiday. Fireworks and other loud noises can make dogs skittish and more likely to run away.

"Please resist the urge to take them to Independence Day festivities, and opt instead to keep them safe from the noise in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area at home," the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says on its website.
