Fernway Students Will Attend A Different Shaker Elementary
The district said it is considering using space at Boulevard, Onaway, and Woodbury to house students displaced by the fire.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Fernway Elementary students will be housed in either Boulevard, Onaway, or Woodbury schools next year, the district announced. A devastating fire tore through Fernway's roof, leaving the building unusable for the school year.
With the first day of classes rapidly approaching, Interim Superintendent Stephen Wilkins and other district leaders were under immense pressure to announce where Fernway students would be at the beginning of the school year. In an email to families on Thursday night, it was announced that Fernway students would be "accommodated" throughout the "Shaker Schools."
"This location is the best immediate available option to accommodate the Fernway community," the district said in the Fernway Update on Thursday evening.

The principals of Boulevard, Onaway, and Woodbury are all trying to identify what free space they have available. Once those spaces are selected, the district will coordinate with Fernway teachers and staff to prepare for the coming school year.
"We will announce the specific details of the exact school locations and classrooms at the community meeting on Wednesday, August 1," the district said. Parents are being asked to limit their questions on the building arrangement to Wilkins and Fernway Principal Chris Hayward during the meeting.

The August 1 meeting will start at 6 p.m. Attendees should meet in the Shaker Heights High School upper cafeteria.
Childcare will be provided during the meeting. However, parents and guardians should RSVP to news@shaker.org and tell them how many children will be in attendance and the ages of the children.
