Finalists Announced In Shaker Heights Superintendent Search

One of the candidates will be familiar to the community.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — The Shaker Heights Schools announced the two finalists in the district's search for its next full-time superintendent.

David Glasner, executive director of curriculum and instruction of Shaker Heights Schools and interim principal of Shaker Heights High School, is one finalist. The other is Elizabeth Kirby, chief of school strategy and planning at Chicago Public Schools.

Both Glasner and Kirby will take part in day-long meetings with district administrators, teachers and staff. They will also attend one of two public meetings: one meeting will be held Tuesday, March 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the second meeting will be held Wednesday, March 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the high school's upper cafeteria.

Kirby, who is also a finalist for the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools superintendent position, grew up in the Shaker-Buckeye neighborhood before graduating from Hawken School and matriculating at Harvard University, where she obtained her B.A. in Urban Studies. She got her M.A. in Social Science from the University of Chicago.

Kirby has been serving as Chief of School Strategy and Planning at Chicago Public Schools since July 2015. She provides strategic guidance to 656 district, charter and contract schools. She started her career in education as a history teacher at Olive-Harvey Middle College High School.

Glasner is the current interim principal at Shaker Heights High and the executive director of curriculum and instruction for the district. He is responsible for the development and implementation of the district's curriculum and instructional practices.

Glasner got his B.A. and M.A. in history from the University of Pennsylvania. He also has a master's degree in social studies education from Teachers College, Columbia University. He earned his doctorate in Urban Education at Cleveland State University.
