Fire Started On Roof At Fernway Elementary In Shaker Heights
No students were inside the building and staff were safely evacuated, the school district said.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — A fire broke out at Fernway Elementary on Tuesday morning, the school district said on social media. There were no students inside the building at the time of the fire and all staff were safely evacuated.
The district said the fire was on the roof of the school. District officials are still assessing the damage.
The Shaker Heights Fire Department is currently on the scene and the building is closed until further notice, the district said. It is not yet clear what may have caused the fire.

The district thanked Fire Chief Patrick Sweeney and his crew for their efforts.
Shaker Heights School District officials told Patch that only a handful of staff were in the building at the time of the fire. Summer break luckily meant that no students were in class.
