Green Lake Pedestrian Bridge Now Open

Work at the pedestrian bridge at Green Lake has now been completed, the city of Shaker Heights announced.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — The pedestrian bridge at Green Lake is now open, the city of Shaker Heights announced.

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District spent nearly $5 million to restore Green Lake and create a walkway on the former site of Andover Road. Crews finished their work on the pedestrian bridge this week.

The Green Lake project is part of the sewer district's Storm Water Management program. Crews dredged the lake to 6 feet, its original Van Sweringen-era construction depth. Workers also rebuilt the dam and spillway.

The pedestrian bridge spans the new spillway, the city said.

In July 2019, the sewer district had Green Lake drained so crews could upgrade the dam. Residents were warned to stay away from the mud flats created by the draining. In May 2020, FirstEnergy worked with the sewer district to install lighting around the pedestrian bridge and prepare it for its opening.
