Many older adults are now experiencing what has been called a "Loneliness Epidemic.” Statistics show that nearly one out of three older Americans now lives alone, and according to the Health Resources and Services Administration, “43% of seniors feel lonely on a regular basis.”
What are the causes, and health risks, and what are some strategies to overcome loneliness? Shaker resident and psychologist, Dr. Sally Wilson, will speak on these issues in her talk, Healing Loneliness, at 1:30 pm Monday, January 13 at the Main Library. In addition to her psychology practice, Dr. Wilson has taught students at John Carroll, Kent State, and NEOMED. She has served as president of the Cleveland Psychological Association and as a trustee of the Ohio Psychological Association.
Loneliness and social isolation are not limited to older adults and Shaker Library serves as a friendly space for neighbors of all ages to connect with others. It is a welcoming place to visit to stave off loneliness and serves as a lifeline for children, teens, adults, and seniors.
