Photographer and local author Lauren Pacini will discuss his new book, Honoring Their Memory, and talk about ten of Levi T. Scofield's major projects. The program begins at 7 pm Thursday, September 19 at Shaker Library, located at 16500 Van Aken Boulevard in Shaker Heights.
Levi T. Scofield was born in Cleveland, and served in the Civil War. After the war he designed several large state institutions, including the asylums for the insane at Athens and Columbus, North Carolina State Penitentiary at Raleigh, and the reformatory at Mansfield, which was featured in the film, The Shawshank Redemption and in some scenes from Air Force One.

Because of his war service, he was a chief advocate for the Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors’ Monument, and devoted seven and a half years as architect and sculptor without compensation. He was the first Cleveland architect taken into membership in the American Institute of Architects.
