Interim Superintendent Sends Message To Shaker Heights Community

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Stephen Wilkins became the Interim Superintendent of the Shaker Heights School on May 8. He will hold the position while the Board of Education searches for a full-time replacement to the departed Gregory Hutchings.

Wilkins sent a message to the Shaker Heights community this week, assuring them he will keep the schools moving forward. "My mission is to carry this momentum forward throughout the year. Given the wonderful people of our Shaker Heights community and the hard work of our teachers, administrators, and staff, I am confident for our success. During the next 12 months as interim superintendent, I look forward to working with you to keep our school community great," he said in his message.

He specifically said his administration would focus on maintaining academic achievement levels and delivering high-quality education to Shaker students. "I am both honored and excited to serve as Interim Superintendent of the Shaker Schools. I want you to know that the district will continue its success as we move through this transition year," he said.

Wilkins was the district's assistant superintendent of business operations and human resources. He will return to that role when his time as interim superintendent comes to an end. The school district will begin its search for a permanent superintendent in the summer of 2018.

At the end of 2017, then Superintendent Gregory Hutchings announced he would be leaving the Shaker Heights Schools. He returned to his hometown of Alexandria, Virginia to become superintendent there. He had been the Shaker Heights superintendent since 2013.
