The month of November is Picture Book Month, a time to celebrate the books where the illustrations are as important as the words in telling the story. As the weather turns cold and snowy, now is the perfect time to find a cozy corner and read with the children you love. Picture books are the first step in learning how to read, so it’s important to give children books to look at, to touch, to smell, and to enjoy. Fortunately, in today’s electronic world, it’s easy to download picture books to a portable device making reading especially accessible. Give children physical or electronic picture books in the car, on the bus, on the Rapid, or while waiting for lunch, or dinner.
Bring them to the library and let them choose a book. Picture books make reading fun. Are you a reading road tripper? Take your young readers to visit the University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of original artwork by children’s book illustrators. Here you can enjoy displays of the whimsical picture book art created to "draw in" young readers.
