Lance Mason To Be Arraigned Tuesday, Faces Life In Prison

CLEVELAND — Former judge Lance Mason will be arraigned on Tuesday in the same court he once served, Cuyahoga County. He faces charges connected to the murder of his ex-wife, Aisha Fraser, a teacher in the Shaker Heights Schools.

On Wednesday, a grand jury handed down a six charge indictment against Mason. The death penalty is not on the table for Mason, so the most severe penalty he could face is life in prison.

"Aisha Fraser was viciously and cruelly taken from her children by Lance Mason's cowardly and selfish act," said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley in a statement. "He stole a loving mother from her children and took an exceptional teacher, neighbor, and role model from the Shaker Heights community. He will be held accountable for his barbaric act."

Mason is accused of stabbing Fraser to death when she arrived at a home on Chagrin Boulevard. Fraser's children, ages 8 and 11, were in the car, the prosecutor said.

Shaker Heights Police were called to the home and rushed to the scene. Officers set up a perimeter around the house.

Mason allegedly stole Fraser's car and tried to flee the scene, hitting a Shaker Heights police cruiser, injuring the legs of Officer Adam Flynt, the prosecutor said. Mason then took off running before officers tracked him down and arrested him, O'Malley said.

Mason is also being charged with felonious assault for injuring Flynt.
