New Mural Celebrates 100 Years Of Shaker Heights Firefighters

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — For 100 years the Shaker Heights Fire Department has served its community. A new mural in the city will celebrate the department's Centennial and its dedication to the residents of Shaker Heights.

The mural also commemorates the 10-year anniversary of the city's new fire house. The mural will be painted on a brick wall of the building, 16700 Chagrin Blvd. The wall borders one of the city's pocket parks.

The mural will be dedicated at an afternoon ceremony on Sept. 23. During the Shaker Heights Fire Department Open House, held between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., tours will be given of the fire house and the mural will be dedicated.

The city says a committee of residents and city employees, including firefighters, and a graduating senior from Shaker Heights High School collaborated with Bordelois to create the mural. Members of the committee will provide the tours of the fire house. Tours will be start at 12:30 p.m. 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The mural was paid for by donations from both current and former residents, along with current and retired firefighters. The city says in a press release that the mural, "highlights the connections between the community and the SHFD and reflects the historical significance of 100 years of firefighting and emergency service to the residents of Shaker Heights."
