New York Times Columnist Is Shaker High Commencement Speaker
David Pogue, a Shaker Heights High School alum, will serve as the guest commencement speaker on June 5.
SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — New York Times columnist and Shaker Heights High alum David Pogue will be the guest commencement speaker at his alma mater's graduation on June 5.
Pogue graduated from Shaker Heights High in 1981 and is a member of the Shaker Schools Hall of Fame. Since leaving Shaker Heights, he has put together a distinguished career as a journalist.
"David was honored to be asked and quickly accepted the invitation. He's an energetic speaker and, as a Shaker alum, he knows what's relevant and important to our graduates and families," said Shaker Schools Foundation Executive Director Holly Coughlin.

Pogue has been with the New York Times, as a weekly tech columnist, from 2000 to 2013. He spent five years at Yahoo Finance and, in 2018, returned to write his "Crowdwise" feature for the "Smarter Living" section. He is also a four-time Emmy winner for his stories on "CBS Sunday Morning" and a host of 17 science specials on PBS' "Nova."
The Shaker High alum has authored more than 100 how-to titles, with 3 million copies of his work in print. He has written seven books for the "For Dummies" series, his own Pogue's Basics series and the Missing Manual series for computers.

Pogue graduated summa cum laude from Yale in 1985. He spent 10 years arranging Broadway musical in New York. He also won a Loeb Award for journalism and received an honorary doctorate in music. He has been profiled on 48 Hours and 60 Minutes.
