New York Times Features Shaker Heights Student's Essay
Written for an AP Composition Class, a 17-year-old senior now sees her words appear in the nation's most famous newspaper.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — The New York Times recently ran a fascinating challenge, inviting students from across the nation to submit short essay responses to various articles. The paper received more than 1,000 submissions. From that impressive list, one Shaker Heights student's work was selected.
Maya Gulani, 17, wrote a response to the Times' article "Presidential Etiquette Guide, Part II." Her essay was part of an AP Composition Class taught by Jody Podl. The essay went beyond the classroom and was submitted to the Times.
The essay is a scathing critique of Republican politics and hypocrisy. (To stay up to date on these stories, subscribe to the Patch Shaker Heights newsletter. As news breaks and the story develops, you will be the first to receive updates from Patch.)

"The reality is that so long as it brings personal benefit, the G.O.P. willingly ignores Mr. Trump’s bigoted behavior and its own hypocrisy, whether it be regarding inflammatory comments or threats toward the Constitution," the essay reads.
