Palling Around With Shaker Heights Cop: Police Academy

Registration for the next citizens police academy in Shaker Heights is open.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — The Citizens Police Academy in Shaker Heights is open to residents and people that work full-time in the city and provides a unique insight into the men and women policing the community. The next class starts Sept. 7 and will meet once a week for 10 weeks.

During the once-a-week, three-hour sessions police officers will discuss criminal investigation, responding to threats, the K-9 Unit, and police tactics. There will also be field visits to help attendees understand the pressures and complexities of police work.

Class size is limited to about 18 students per class to ensure active dialogue with officers. Notably, graduating from the academy does not grant any authority to attendees.

Attendees will also get to ride along with police in a cruiser, learn more about Shaker's fire department, and will get to participate in a Citizens Police Academy Graduation Ceremony.
