Possible Weapon Incident At Shaker Heights High Resolved

A juvenile boy ran from the high school but was caught by police. A rumor started soon after that he was in possession of a weapon.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Police at Shaker Heights High School detained a juvenile male on Tuesday. The boy had an incident with security on-site at the school and attempted to run from the premises. Officers apprehended the boy within a minute of his fleeing.

During the incident, there was some mention of a weapon. Rumor spread the boy had a weapon and police searched the area around the school. No weapon was actually observed at the time of the incident. A backpack was later located, but no weapon has yet been found, police told Patch.

The district briefly increased security around the high school, and Onaway Elementary and Woodbury Elementary schools. A spokesperson for Shaker Schools said the incident was resolved peacefully by police and no students were hurt. All schools are operating as normal.

Shaker Heights Police could not say if the juvenile involved in the incident was a student.
