Prowler Spotted Going Through Car In Shaker Heights

A Cleveland Heights man said he saw a man digging through his car. The prowler appeared to have a handgun.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Residents in Shaker Heights have been victimized repeatedly recently by prowlers snagging loose change, credit cards and other personal property out of unlocked cars parked on the street or in driveways. Over the weekend, one man saw a prowler at work.

On Aug. 19, a Cleveland Heights man, whose car was parked in the 3000 block of Daleford Road, returned to his vehicle and saw a man digging through the vehicle. The Cleveland Heights man had left his car unlocked and the prowler was busily snatching personal property from the vehicle.

The Cleveland Heights man told police the prowler appeared to have a handgun. The prowler ran into the city of Cleveland and no one was hurt. Prowlers in the city have been known to snatch bicycles from unsecured garages, along with whatever they can grab from unlocked cars. On Aug. 13, for example, personal property was stolen from an unlocked car parked in the 13000 block of Fairhill Road. The vehicle was parked in an unsecured multi-tenant garage.
